The Bowling For Soup guys just released “My Wena,” the first single and video from their upcoming album. Expect more tunes from the Denton quartet this fall, when Sorry For Partyin’ is released by Jive Records.

Maybe BFS will play some of the new songs at Dia De Los Toadies, Aug 29. The event will feature other great bands, including The Secret Machines, Ben Kweller, and (obviously), Toadies.

Local band Caterpillars has an important show at The Door this month. Apparently, Lincstar Records will be sending someone down to Big D, as they’ve recently been courting the band. Keep your fingers crossed, or better yet, go to the show and support members of the home team!… In other local news, Drawn by Jaymz has a sweet little gig at The Lounge. If you haven’t seen them yet, you’re missing out…

Want a little piece of your favorite Texas guitarist, but don’t have the time and energy to stalk them? Eye on the Sparrow Designs – which donates a portion of sales to local charities — creates bracelets using guitar strings from Lone Star state musicians. The current batch uses steel from Quickserv Johnny, Deathray Davies and King Bucks!

Do you plan to catch Pearl Jam at the Austin City Limits Music Festival this fall? Even if you aren’t lucky enough to make it to Zilker Park Oct 4, you can join the legions of fans who will be picking up the band’s Sept. release, Backspacer.

Rumor has it the band will appear in an upcoming episode… Jane’s Addiction drummer, Stephen Perkins was recently hospitalized after. . . an infected elbow? Their tour to Australia has been postponed. Good luck with that elbow, Perkins.

Pixies have a U.S. tour in the works, but no news yet of a show in the metroplex. Fingers crossed… In honor of the ten-year anniversary of their first album, Slipknot plans to release a rare collection… Be Your Own Pet fans, take note. Jemina Pearl takes the solo route with an upcoming album, which features a duet with Iggy Pop… It seems like forever since Shonen Knife has made any news. They’ve been keeping things quiet in Japan but have recorded Super Group… Weezer is putting the final touches on a new album.
