The Scott McCurry Band’s CD Release party at the House of Blues’ Pontiac Garage was reportedly, “the best gig he’s ever done.” The show was sold out (with even some scalpers out in front.)
Seventh Void (with Johnny Kelley and Kenny Hickey of Type O Negative) has their CD release party on Tues, April 21 at The Clubhouse. The band is on Big Vin Records (see p. 7 for details). Destroyer is opening.

Good news; bad news
The Hard Rock is returning to Dallas… in Victory Park, with an opening tentatively set for July (only in Dallas do they value glass and chrome over beautiful architecture)… The Dallas City Council has approved a $2 million contract to begin razing Reunion Arena this month. Also stupid; stupid... Firewater has closed; their last night being April 30...
Say “Happy Birthday” to Jill Jackson, who is celebrating her birthday at O’Riley’s on April 4.

Special events
Mark May 8-10 on your calendar to attend Dallas Doom Daze at the Across The Street Bar. Last year’s festival was excellent, and this promises to be even better. (See p. 9 for a listing of bands and festivities).
The Deep Ellum Arts Fest takes place April 3 – 5, and is free…. The Bloodapalooza Tattoo, Art’s and Music Festival is at the Sterling Hotel on April 10-12 with over 50 local bands performing, (plus Drowning Pool headlining on Saturday).

Band musical chairs
Phil (formerly with Proven Ground) is the new vocalist for Earthrot. The band opens for Kataklyzm and Napalm Death at the Ridglea Theater on Apr. 29… The JSP (Jay Shannon Project) is getting back together…. Tony Smith has rejoined Diver Down. He was in the original line up and is also in Blacklist.
Belated condolences to Kimber Polen on the death of her beloved Chihuahua, Ivan.

May 2009 makes 16 years for HB!
Unbelievable, but it’s true.
