Special events
Poor David’s Pub celebrates it’s 32nd anniversary on March 8 with an all-day open mic.
There’s a release party for Scotty McCurry’s new CD at the House of Blues’ Pontiac Garage on March 14.

New live music club
RJ’s in Ft. Worth (formerly the Engine Room) is hosting a benefit for the Tarrant County Food Bank on March 19 with Dave Evans (very first singer for AC/DC) and Alcoholica. Jimmy Lee is the club’s new owner, and he’s now having live music. Call him at 817/269-9808… and tell him ya read about the club in the HB.

HOB adds locals
EKG’s Eric Knudson reports that, as a result of a great showing at the employee talent show, the House Of Blues general manager has decided to support the local scene in a HUGE way. Now local bands will get a chance to play the BIG stage, with full lights and sound. Knudson will be booking the shows, which are slated to be only $3 admission for over 21, $8 for minors and will feature greatly reduced drink prices. Bands will get tickets to sell and earn a percentage of each one sold. Check myspace.com/ericknudson for updates and booking info.
The Vampire Lounge is open Thursday and Sunday nights and looking for bands.

Moving on…
Louie Shoop (most recently soundman for O’Riley’s — and several previous places) has left the club. He’s working in a related business, building stages, working with sound and lights for a company that does corporate events and festivals. Louie passes along a “thank you” to us (HB) and the bands he worked with over the past 13 years. Good luck to him.

Rest in peace...
Larry Morgan, who passed away on Jan. 26. He was the long-time owner of Larry Morgan Music & Sound in Garland.
Gerry Niewood (saxophonist) and Coleman Mellett (guitarist) of Chuck Mangione’s jazz band, who were killed in the recent plane crash of Flight 3408 from Newark, NJ to Buffalo, NY. They were en route to a concert.
Jazz, Kevin White’s 15-year old Beagle, who passed away this last month. She is very missed…. And Loki, Mickey Rourke’s 17-year old Chihuahua. At the Academy Awards, Mickey wore a locket with Loki’s picture in it. He mentioned in an interview that, when he was suicidal, his dog saved his life.
