Club changes
Fat Daddy’s has moved from their long-time space in Lewisville and are looking for new digs. Contact Sarah Brattain at fdss@mac.com with any suggestions.
The Rock House in Addison is going through some changes. Poison Cherry was notified that their Sept. 26 show (which was to be Jakk’s Birthday party) was cancelled. We’ve since heard the club is changing management and will reopen soon.

Benefit for Hurricane Ike victims
Poor David’s Pub is hosting a Hurricane Ike relief benefit for North Texas Food Bank and the American Red Cross. It’s being held Oct. 19, 3 – 6 pm (after the Cowboy’s game), with up to 16 bands that have volunteered. There will be a vast range of musical styles — from rock to Celtic, blues, folk, electronic and others. There will probably be a silent auction/raffle as well.

Band news
The new SIK CD, The Weak is Broken, is finished, with eight killer tunes available for only 5 bucks. You can get a sneak peek and get a copy at one of their shows or by going to http://www.myspace.com/sikband.

Congratulations to Mojave Ocean, which is getting airplay of their CD in Germany. According to the promotional (and musical) brain behind the band, both “Mojave Ocean” and “Get There” are being played there, thanks to DJ Ottic who contacted them, requesting a CD.
They’re also getting airplay of “Machine” on Retro Radio One in Canada. Wil also says they’re had some plays on a station in Australia and received requests for the CD from Chile, the UK and the Philippines, as well as… Arizona [hmmm. Think that could be McCain?]
Jude Martinez (of MyMotive and, way back — Oblique) is Music Director at the Paul Green School of Rock Music. The kids are going to performing Pink Floyd’s The Wall in its entirety. Yes, the kids, ages 7-17, have learned all 23 songs. Want an adventure? So see the concert on October 4 and 5th at the House of Blues, starting at 2:00 p.m.

From Marissa
Congrats to Ropehead (Belief System) and Angela Lewis on their engagement — who says marriage isn’t metal?…

Benefit at Rockstar
There are good guy’s left in this world — Rockstar owner Warren opened his club for a benefit to raise money for Blood of the Son, whose equipment was stolen after a show in Denton. Hellgoat, SIK, Blood of the Sun, Subourne, My Last Nerve, WAJA, Pain Filled Silence and Sweettooth donated their time and talents.

Vaste Burai, an ambient, aggressive Dallas two piece reminiscent of Mastodon, is hittin’ the road for a mini-Texas Tour. Catch them at The Lounge in Deep Ellum this month… On Halloween, you can catch Ghoultown when they premiere their new video with Elvira at Reno’s on October 31.
Happy Samhain to all. Email me your news at myspace.com/harderbeat (Marissa Bruce)

Toadies’ Clark Vogeler attacked onstage in Amarillo
Clark Vogeler of The Toadies was attacked onstage during a sold-out show in Amarillo on Sept. 26. While playing one of their biggest hits, “Possum Kingdom,” some loco dumb ass jumped from the barrier wall onto the stage untouched, as the security staff (or lack of) played catch up. The mad man had Vogeler in a headlock before being pulled off the stage with the help of two roadies and the monitor mix soundman. You could hear the crowd gasp loudly over the music during the incident. Fortunately the guitarist was not hurt.

Obviously several security guards were more interested in hugging girls in the crowd than providing safety for the bands. One main guard was preoccupied with chest butting a willing girl, and the horseplay went on. It seems the only time they were willing to do their job was when they hassled concertgoers, like the girl getting pushed when trying to take a pic with a cell phone. Many fans stood at the side of the stage watching the bands and trying their best to keep a clear path open to the restrooms — only to be hassled repeatedly by security. For hours, we helped them keep an area clear that should have been roped off.

I ended up getting shoved around by security at the end of the show, when I asked a roadie for the set list from the stage. However justice prevailed, as the roadie calmly walked up, looking at me with a smile, shook my hand and gave me the set list in front of the asshole security. Just another night in the wild, wild west I guess, but it could have turned out to be a much more dangerous situation with security showing such blatant incompetence. (Randall Stephens)
