Abigail Williams - Sounds like…Metal!
By Marissa Bruce

Abigail Williams - so which one is Abigail?

Abigail Williams is booked solid through November and hasn’t taken a breath since the Summer Slaughter Tour. But if you asked the five guys and one chick (keyboardist) their home state, you’d get four different answers.

Here’s how it works. Founding member Ken Sorceron records 70% of the tracks in his home — then emails the parts to other band members in NY, Phoenix, etc. “Generally, “ he says, “I start recording the guitar riffs and drum parts, then I send it to Ashley (keyboardist) over the internet… and that’s how an Abigail tune is born.”

“We don’t really jam as a band. We let the song take its structure while we’re on tour.” That seems to be working for them, as they’ve been on tour pretty much all summer — alongside Cattle Decapitation, Vader, Dark Funeral and others in Europe and the U.S.

“Dark Funeral comes off all blasphemous and intense on stage,” Ken chuckles, “but in person they’re like cartoon characters who just wanna have a good laugh.”

The band’s favorite part of being on tour is the fans. “We love playing in front of kids who haven’t been exposed to our kind of music (black metal) — especially those who thank us for bringing a European flavor to the states.” Overall, Abigail Williams is a group of dedicated musicians who love the hand they’ve been dealt. Closing the interview, Ken states, “If you want to make it — you have to put music above everything, and some days the reward is just playing the show.” But to Abigail Williams it’s definitely worth it.

You can catch Abigail Williams at the Ridglea Theater on Nov 9. In the meantime, get their new album October 28, featuring Emperor’s Trym Torson on drums.
